KAREN BLIXEN, also known as Isaak Dinesen, was born at Rungstedlund in Denmark on 17th April 1885, the second of Wilhelm and Ingeborg Dinesen’s five children. She came to Kenya in early 1914, where she married her Swedish half-cousin Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke, who had preceded her to buy a farm. They spent their first years at Mbagathi, where they started to grow coffee on 600 out of a total 4500 acres of the estate. The coffee company was financed by Karen Blixen’s uncle Aage Westenholz and members of both families as shareholders.

Giraffe centre:  It is run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife. Its purpose is to boost the population of the rare Rothschild’s giraffe and to educate the public about conservation of these awesome animals. There are six giraffes currently at the center.
The center is such a fun place to visit! There is a giraffe-level, circular observation tower where the giraffes push their heads through, and you can hand-feed them pellets. You feed them by dropping pellets on their tongues (which are 18” long!), when they stick them out

Day 3:Nairobi/Lake Nakuru
Breakfast at Sarova Stanley
Begin your safari and drive west to the Great Rift Valley and into Lake Nakuru National park arriving in time for lunch at Lion hill Lodge. Afternoon game drive around the lake.

The Rift Valley is the greatest valley in the world, a continental fault system that stretches from the Dead Sea all the way to Mozambique. In Kenya, the valley forms a great rift through the middle of the country beginning from Turkana in the north to Lake Magadi in the south. In between are a series of other lakes; Baringo, Bogoria, Nakuru, Elementaita, and Naivasha. Only two of these lakes (Naivasha and Baringo) are fresh water lakes .The others are shallow soda lakes. Dozens of volcanoes erupted in and around the Rift Valley. Most of them are now extinct, but have left their mark on the landscape in the form of half submerged islands, giant calderas, and the distinctive cone shapes which dot the landscape. The Rift Valley evokes a sense of immense mystery and the power of time.

Situated in the heart of Kenya’s Rift valley is Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, nestling on the banks of one of East Africa’s most famous soda lakes, Lake Nakuru. Avid bird watchers can feast on the spectacular display of its famous flamingo residents. Welcome to the experience of a life time.
